A first aid instructor in Kent, Michael, experienced a heart attack on March 24, noting unexpected symptoms like restlessness and jaw discomfort. Even with his medical knowledge, the signs were not immediately obvious. Paramedics from Secamb, including dispatch team leader Olivia and her crew Tyler, Olivia, and Jo, responded swiftly.
Upon arrival, the team performed an electrocardiogram (ECG) to confirm the heart attack. They then transported Michael to William Harvey Hospital, providing critical care during the journey. During this phase, Michael was treated for a blocked artery caused by an arterial dissection, a serious condition where a tear in the artery wall allows blood to separate its layers.
After spending four days in the hospital, Michael returned home to continue his recovery. He has since visited the Secamb's Thanet Make Ready Centre to express his gratitude to the medical team. Paramedic Jo emphasized that heart attacks can manifest in unexpected ways, even for those familiar with medical procedures, and expressed satisfaction in seeing Michael recover well.
