Summary
- Maidstone Borough Council approved £3.53m for Heart of Kent Hospice.
- The project aims to create a new hospice and community care hub.
- The hospice still needs to raise an additional £12m for completion.
Plans for a new hospice and community care hub in Linton, Kent, have advanced significantly following an approval of £3.53m in council funding. This vital contribution from Maidstone Borough Council marks a substantial milestone for the £18.5m Heart of Kent Hospice project.
The purpose-built facility is intended to provide comprehensive palliative care alongside broader health and care services for residents in Maidstone and surrounding areas. This recent funding means that over a third of the total project cost has now been secured.
Despite this positive development, Heart of Kent Hospice still faces the challenge of raising a further £12m. Consequently, there is currently no confirmed start date for construction, pending the successful acquisition of the remaining funds.
The awarded money was allocated via the council's Community Infrastructure Levy programme, which channels developer contributions towards local infrastructure and community projects. Heart of Kent Hospice has a long-standing history, having served individuals with terminal illnesses and their families for over 35 years.
