KEM Hospital Canteen Shut Over Hygiene Lapses
18 Jul
Summary
- Mumbai's KEM Hospital canteen license suspended due to unhygienic conditions.
- FDA inspection on July 15 found violations of food safety norms.
- Action taken against M/s Stany Caterers operating at the hospital.

The canteen operating at Mumbai's KEM Hospital has had its license suspended by the Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This action followed an inspection on July 15 by the FDA's Zone 3 team, which identified significant unhygienic conditions and breaches of food safety regulations.
M/s Stany Caterers, the operator of the canteen located on the ground floor of the Old Nurses Home building, has been ordered to cease all business activities. This suspension, enacted with immediate effect, underscores the FDA's commitment to enforcing food safety standards.
Four food samples, including prepared rice and sunflower oil, were collected for laboratory analysis during the inspection. The recent surge in FDA crackdowns on food businesses, including eateries and dairy farms, intensified since Tukaram Mundhe assumed charge as Maharashtra FDA Commissioner in May.
