Karnataka Health Data Goes Digital

Karnataka's State Health Department has ordered the implementation of 'Samasta', a digital platform designed to improve field-level health data collection. This new system replaces manual record-keeping, which has historically impacted data accuracy and analysis for various national health programs.

The 'Samasta' platform digitizes information at its source, consolidating 485 data elements from ASHA diaries into 134 key elements. This rationalization is projected to decrease the workload for field health workers by approximately 75%, while also offering both online and offline data entry capabilities.

Initially piloted in Udupi district, the platform saw 95% beneficiary registration and demonstrated considerable gains in data accuracy and operational efficiency. These positive outcomes have led to a directive for a phased statewide rollout across Karnataka, with comprehensive training planned for all personnel.

Furthermore, the department has emphasized the critical need for robust data security and confidentiality measures throughout the platform's implementation and ongoing use.
