Karnataka's emergency medical services have received a significant technological upgrade with the inauguration of a new 108 Command and Control Centre. This centralized system is designed to expedite patient care during emergencies by ensuring ambulances are dispatched not just quickly, but to the most appropriate medical facility. The initiative integrates various critical helplines, including 104, 112, TeleManas, eSanjeevani, and women's and child helplines, under a single operational platform.
The system utilizes GPS to pinpoint caller locations and identify the nearest available ambulance and suitable government health facilities. This allows for strategic dispatch, directing severe trauma cases directly to specialized hospitals. Patients or their caregivers will receive an SMS notification with ambulance details and a live tracking link for real-time monitoring. The command center manages both the dedicated 108 ambulance fleet and government hospital-based ambulances, enhancing overall emergency response capabilities across all 31 districts of the state.
