The Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Department has directed the establishment of heat stroke management rooms across government health facilities. This initiative is in response to the anticipated rise in temperatures and potential heat waves.
These dedicated rooms will be equipped with essential facilities, including fans, ice cubes, and thermometers, to manage heat-related illnesses effectively. The directive specifies the number of beds for these rooms: two in community health centers, five in taluk hospitals, and ten in district hospitals.
The management rooms are scheduled to be operational from March 1st to July 31st, 2026. This timeframe is crucial for addressing health problems arising from excessive heat and heat waves, with the aim of preventing further risks and potential deaths.
Health centers and state-run hospitals have also been instructed to train their doctors and paramedical staff on managing Heat Related Illnesses (HRI). The department has requested compliance reports on the implementation of these heat stroke management rooms.
