Summary
- Bird flu outbreak at Hesaraghatta poultry centre successfully contained.
- Over 28,000 people monitored during a 10-day surveillance drive.
- No human bird flu (H5N1) cases have been detected so far.

The Karnataka Health Department announced on April 25, 2026, that a bird flu outbreak at the Hesaraghatta government poultry training centre has been contained. The outbreak, first detected on April 14 and confirmed by NIHSAD, prompted immediate deployment of rapid response teams.
An intensive 10-day surveillance drive was conducted within a 10-km zone around the outbreak site. This involved monitoring a population of 28,172 individuals across 22 villages. Health officials confirmed that nasopharyngeal samples from quarantined staff tested negative for H5N1.
Authorities culled affected birds and disposed of contaminated materials safely. The affected centre received a sanitization certificate on April 21, and poultry activities will be suspended for 90 days. Public advisories emphasize avoiding sick poultry and properly cooking poultry products.
While no human H5N1 cases have been detected, healthcare facilities in Bengaluru are continuing to monitor Influenza-Like Illness and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection cases and maintain adequate medical supplies.
