Doctor Accused of Negligence in Fish Bone Case
22 Jul
Summary
- Patient alleges fish bone removal failure led to surgery.
- Hospital denies negligence, cites patient's refusal for scan.
- Police registered case after preliminary inquiry into complaint.

Kannur Town police have registered a case against a doctor at KIMS Sreechand Hospital concerning allegations of medical negligence. The complaint was filed by P.V. Savithri, who states she was discharged without a fish bone being fully removed from her throat.
Ms. Savithri reported persistent pain after an endoscopic procedure, with a subsequent CT scan at another hospital revealing a retained bone. This bone was later surgically removed.
Hospital authorities have refuted the negligence claims. They assert that an X-ray identified a foreign body, and an endoscopic removal was performed. The hospital stated the patient declined a post-procedure CT scan, citing financial reasons, and left against medical advice, despite being asked to return for a review.
Hospital administrators believe the complaint is without merit and intended to damage the hospital's reputation. They confirmed all procedures were documented and that they are cooperating with the police investigation.
