Paracetamol Shortage Hits Kanaka Durga Temple
11 Oct
Summary
- Over 90,000 devotees visited the temple on the first day.
- Several medical camps ran out of paracetamol by the afternoon.
- DMHO promised increased medicine supplies in the coming days.

On Sunday, October 11, the first day of the Dasara festivities, the Kanaka Durga temple in Vijayawada experienced a significantly higher number of visitors than anticipated. Approximately 90,000 devotees had arrived by 6 p.m., a notable increase from the previous year. This surge in attendance placed a strain on the 25 medical camps established to serve the visitors.
Several of these medical camps, which were stocked with essential medicines including paracetamol, antibiotics, and drugs for common ailments, began to run out of paracetamol by the afternoon. The District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO), Sravan Babu, confirmed that while each camp received 400 paracetamol tablets, higher-than-expected crowds on the weekend led to shortages in some locations.
While immediate steps were taken to replenish the depleted stocks, one camp had to wait over two hours for new supplies. The DMHO assured that larger quantities of medicines would be provided to the camps in the upcoming days to adequately manage the sustained demand throughout the festival period.
