Kristian Trend, a 40-year-old wellness coach and cancer survivor, died after reportedly taking Kambo, a substance derived from the secretions of the Amazonian giant leaf frog. Trend collapsed at his home in Leicester on April 11, 2026, and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Kambo is traditionally used in South America for purification rituals, and its popularity has been growing in Europe as a wellbeing treatment.
His mother, Angie, has expressed her grief and called for Kambo to be banned, stating her son was seeking to 'cleanse himself' before his collapse. Trend had previously battled and recovered from Burkitt lymphoma cancer. Leicestershire Police arrested a 41-year-old man on suspicion of administering poison, but he was released on bail as investigations continue.
Kambo is not licensed as a medicine in the UK, and its administrators are not regulated by the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency. The Home Office stated it is monitoring the substance and urged caution with alternative therapies. Kristian's family is fundraising for the Loros hospice charity in Leicestershire in his memory. He had also recently launched a plant-based energy drink, Feel Good Polys, with remaining stock sales to be donated to charity.
