Kalaburagi district is advancing towards its goal of becoming tuberculosis-free, having successfully declared 79 gram panchayats as TB-free as of March 2026. This significant achievement reflects sustained efforts by the administration and health departments. The district has maintained a treatment success rate of over 90% annually, conducting between 80,000 and 90,000 tests to ensure early detection and treatment.
The "TB Mukt Panchayat" campaign has shown encouraging results, contributing to the increase in TB-free gram panchayats. Kalaburagi has also improved its standing in the state for TB detection and treatment, moving from 31st place in 2022 to approximately 14th-15th place. Free testing and treatment facilities are accessible at all government hospitals and primary health centers.
Officials emphasize the need to combat social stigma associated with TB, clarifying that it does not spread through casual contact and urging societal support for patients. The recovery of TB patients is significantly aided by family support. Furthermore, a World TB Day event on March 24, 2026, recognized several gram panchayats and medical officers for their contributions to TB eradication, with Sirachand and Chimmaldai gram panchayats receiving gold medals.
