16 Feb
Summary
- Jesy Nelson's documentary reached number one on Amazon's charts.
- Her twin daughters, Story and Ocean, were diagnosed with SMA Type 1.
- Jesy is campaigning for expanded newborn screening for SMA.

Former Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson recently celebrated a significant career achievement with her documentary reaching the number one spot on Amazon's viewing charts. This success is shared as she continues her dedicated campaign for crucial Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) tests.
Nelson welcomed twin daughters, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, in May 2025. The girls, born prematurely, were diagnosed with SMA Type 1 last month. SMA is a genetic condition causing progressive muscle weakening, with SMA Type 1 having a life expectancy of two years if untreated.
Jesy and the twins' father, Zion Foster, have been informed that their daughters may never walk and could face severe breathing and swallowing difficulties. Nelson is now urging the NHS to include SMA1 screening in the standard newborn heel prick test, believing early detection costing approximately £1 could have prevented disability.
Her petition advocating for this change has garnered over 120,000 signatures, a milestone met with emotional celebrations. Nelson has temporarily put her music career on hold to focus on her daughters and her advocacy for the SMA community.
