15 Oct
Summary
- New legislation on medicinal cannabis will be presented to politicians next year.
- An inquest revealed cannabis prescription contributed to a man's death.
- Health Minister vows robust oversight of unlicensed medicinal cannabis.
Stricter legislation governing medicinal cannabis in Jersey is slated for presentation to politicians in early 2027. This move comes in response to critical issues highlighted during a recent inquest.
The inquest examined the 2025 death of David Morgan, aged 66. The coroner determined that a prescription for medical cannabis played a significant role in the deterioration of his behavior, ultimately contributing to his passing.
In light of these findings, Health Minister Tom Binet has committed to implementing more robust oversight. He stated that action is necessary to ensure comprehensive control over the prescribing of unlicensed medicinal cannabis within Jersey.
