22 Sep
Summary
- Three Jersey pharmacies now access patient medical records.
- Access aims to provide more effective patient care and prevent delays.
- GPs, pharmacists, and healthcare professionals will collaborate more efficiently.
Three pharmacies in Jersey have recently gained access to patient medical records, a move designed to offer more effective care. The initiative, implemented by the Government of Jersey, permits Reids in St Saviour, the Coop in St Clement, and LV in St Helier to view crucial patient information. This includes details on medications, past vaccinations, existing conditions, and known allergies. The primary goal is to support patients by preventing delays and the need for return visits when additional information is required for prescriptions or consultations.
This new system aims to significantly improve efficiency and collaboration within the healthcare sector. Previously, pharmacists had to contact GP practices via phone or fax to retrieve patient data, a process that often led to considerable delays. Social Security Minister Elaine Millar highlighted that this enhanced access will allow GPs, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to work together more efficiently, ultimately benefiting patient outcomes and streamlining healthcare delivery across Jersey.
