- £3m suite funded by dormant bank accounts at Jersey General Hospital.
- Procedures include cancer, blood clots, and future musculoskeletal pain treatment.

A new £3 million Interventional Radiology (IR) suite has opened at Jersey General Hospital, funded by dormant bank accounts. This state-of-the-art facility employs catheters and wires for treatments through minimal incisions, significantly reducing patient discomfort and recovery periods.
The 16-month project involved installing advanced imaging equipment and refurbishing existing spaces. Consultant radiologist Dr. Nolan Walker highlighted the suite's capacity to perform a wide range of procedures on the island, enhancing existing treatments for vascular conditions, fibroids, and enlarged prostates.
Future capabilities of the IR suite may extend to treating musculoskeletal pain, such as knee and shoulder issues, and addressing trauma cases like internal bleeding from spleen ruptures. Dr. Walker emphasized that the new equipment matches global standards, with some procedures requiring no recovery time and eliminating the need for overnight stays.
Health Minister Deputy Tom Binet confirmed the £3m investment from long-dormant funds. While some treatments will still necessitate travel to the UK, the new suite will enable many procedures to be performed locally, saving money and reducing patient travel burdens.
