Jersey Health Cuts Agency Worker Reliance
15 Mar
Summary
- Agency nurse numbers fell from 39 to 15 in one year.
- Total agency staff dropped from 95 to 68 over a year.
- 139 permanent staff joined the department in 2025.

Jersey's Health and Social Services Department is successfully reducing its dependence on expensive agency healthcare staff. Health Minister Tom Binet reported a notable decrease in agency nurse numbers, which fell from 39 in January 2025 to just 15 by January 2026. This progress aligns with the department's strategy to bolster its internal staff bank.
The overall use of agency workers also saw a significant reduction, dropping from a high of 95 in March 2025 to 68 in January 2026. These improvements are credited to effective recruitment drives that welcomed 139 permanent full-time employees in 2025, including doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals.
