Carlos Migoya, the long-serving CEO of Jackson Health System, has announced his departure from the Miami-Dade County public health system. His final day will be May 31, 2026, concluding over a decade of leadership. Migoya took the helm in 2011 when the system faced critical financial issues and was on the verge of hospital closures. He is credited with revitalizing the system and spearheading its comprehensive response to the COVID-19 pandemic and vaccination efforts.
Following Migoya's announcement, the Public Health Trust board unanimously appointed David Zambrana as the successor CEO. Zambrana currently serves as Jackson's president and chief operating officer and was Migoya's recommended choice. He has been a key part of Migoya's leadership team for over six years. Zambrana's extensive career spans 35 years, beginning as a bedside nurse at Jackson Memorial Hospital and Ryder Trauma Center. He has since held senior leadership positions at various hospital systems, including CEO roles at University of Miami Hospital and Jackson Memorial Hospital.
