Summary
- Emergency air and road ambulance services are now contracted for five years.
- Contracts ensure continued specialist care access for the island's population.
- Services include helicopter transfers and UK road ambulance connections.

Emergency air ambulance services for the Isle of Man are now guaranteed for the next five years. This follows a tender process that aimed to resolve recent doubts about the future of these vital medical transport operations.
Manx Care announced that Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) will continue providing helicopter emergency medical services. IAS Medical has been awarded contracts for fixed-wing air ambulance transfers. Additionally, Spark UK Medical will manage road ambulance transfers from UK airports to hospitals.
These long-term agreements are designed to offer stability and maintain a strong focus on patient safety and outcomes. The "emergency air bridge" is crucial for rapidly transferring seriously ill or injured patients to specialized UK medical centers.
The previous temporary arrangement for the helicopter service, which began on April 1, 2025, has now been superseded by these new five-year contracts, with an option for a further two-year extension.
