Iowa Surgeon Faces Malpractice Charges

The Iowa Board of Medicine has formally charged Dr. Kahlil Jihad Andrews, an eastern Iowa plastic surgeon, with professional incompetence and improper medical record management. These charges follow accusations of negligence from six Iowans, stemming from investigations initiated in 2023 and 2024. Dr. Andrews, licensed in Iowa since 2012, has categorically denied the allegations through a written statement, emphasizing his dedication to patient care and his right to due process.

Allegations against Dr. Andrews date back to 2018, with patients citing issues like deformities from operations and nerve damage from liposuction and abdominoplasty. While some lawsuits have been voluntarily dropped by the plaintiffs, others remain active. One case involving a chin implant resulted in corrective surgery and complications, but a jury ultimately found no fault with Dr. Andrews' care.

A formal hearing concerning the board's charges against Dr. Andrews is scheduled for March 25 and 26, 2026.
