Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to headline India's 12th International Day of Yoga celebrations on June 21, with Kolkata's historic Red Road as the central venue. This significant global wellness event highlights the theme "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," underscoring the growing importance of ensuring longer lifespans are also healthier and more independent.
In a remarkable prelude to the day, over four lakh individuals participated simultaneously in a nationwide live yoga session on June 14, establishing a new Guinness World Record. The Ministry of Ayush announced that celebrations will extend to 100 iconic heritage sites across India, coordinated by the Ministry of Culture, connecting yoga with India's rich cultural legacy.
Kolkata will host a series of preparatory events, including 'Doud se Dhyan' for fitness and well-being, and 'Vande Yogam' showcasing yoga, patriotism, and heritage. Additionally, a 'Ganga Tat Yoga Yatra' is underway from June 13 to June 20, tracing the Ganga to promote environmental awareness and community engagement through yoga.
