A team of emergency physicians at Medanta Hospital, Lucknow, led by Dr. Lokendra Gupta, has secured design registration for an integrated emergency transport stretcher. This innovation aims to revolutionize intra-hospital transfers for critically ill patients.
The concept was born from a real-life emergency where a patient's condition worsened during transport, revealing limitations of conventional stretchers. The developed stretcher is designed to support continuous critical care interventions, functioning in six distinct modes including ICU, CPR, radiology, and surgical procedures.
Key features include an expandable CPR platform, integrated monitoring, essential medical supply storage, and radiolucent imaging capabilities. This ensures that patient treatment is a seamless continuation rather than a pause. Further engineering and testing are planned before potential clinical deployment.
