In Indore's Bhagirathpura area, a concerning health crisis has emerged, with local families alleging that contaminated drinking water has caused 29 deaths over the past month. One such victim was 62-year-old Khubchand Bandhaiya, whose son reported he suffered from vomiting and diarrhoea for weeks before passing away at home.
Officials have identified the presence of E. coli bacteria in 51 tube wells within Bhagirathpura. This contamination is believed to stem from a leak in the municipal drinking water pipeline, which allowed sewage from a toilet to mix with the public water supply.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court has taken serious note of the situation, establishing a one-member commission to conduct a judicial inquiry. This commission, headed by former judge Justice Sushil Kumar Gupta, has been directed to submit an interim report within four weeks of commencing proceedings.
