Union Minister J.P. Nadda reported substantial progress in India's healthcare sector under Prime Minister Modi's administration. The number of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has dramatically risen from 6 to 23, significantly bolstering tertiary healthcare and medical education opportunities across the nation.
India has demonstrated exceptional improvements in maternal and child health, with its Maternal Mortality Ratio declining by approximately 86%. This achievement notably surpasses the global reduction rate of around 48%, showcasing the effectiveness of public health initiatives.
Further advancements include a 21% decrease in TB incidence, exceeding the global decline of 12%. The financial burden of healthcare on citizens has also been reduced, as out-of-pocket expenditure has fallen from 62.6% to 39.4%.
Access to timely cancer treatment has improved, with about 90% of patients starting treatment within 20 days. The Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, a large-scale health coverage scheme, has provided vital financial protection, benefiting over 71 crore people.
