Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan recently articulated that healthcare transcends being merely a service sector, identifying it as a fundamental mission for national development. He underscored the integral role of private medical establishments, alongside government initiatives, in propelling India towards its ambitious targets of a 'Healthy India' and a 'Viksit Bharat' by 2047.
The nation's commitment to accessible healthcare was evident in the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which has provided crucial financial relief and medical coverage to approximately 50 crore citizens. Furthermore, the expansion of Health and Wellness Centres across the country is actively bolstering preventive and primary care services, encompassing vital areas like mental health and elder care.
Addressing the critical need for medical professionals, significant strides have been made in increasing MBBS seats, with projections for an additional 75,000 by 2029. This expansion, coupled with the establishment of over 300 new medical colleges in the past decade, aims to broaden access to medical education beyond major urban centers.
