24 Feb
Summary

- Gardasil vaccine will be provided free of cost to curb cervical cancer.
- The program is voluntary and aims for equitable access to immunisation.

India is initiating a nationwide campaign to offer the Gardasil HPV vaccine free of charge to girls aged 14 and above. This voluntary program aims to significantly reduce cervical cancer rates by providing equitable access to crucial immunisation.
The quadrivalent vaccine protects against HPV types 16 and 18, the primary causes of cervical cancer, as well as types 6 and 11. Scientific evidence indicates that a single dose offers robust and lasting protection when given to girls within the recommended age group.
This effort is part of the extensive 'Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan,' a health outreach initiative focusing on women and children. The campaign has organized numerous health camps to deliver preventive, promotive, and curative healthcare services, strengthening early detection for various diseases and promoting adolescent health.
