India Launches Indigenous Td Vaccine

On February 21, 2026, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda inaugurated the domestically produced tetanus and adult diphtheria (Td) vaccine at the Central Research Institute (CRI) in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh. This launch signifies a major advancement in securing India's health and bolstering its public health infrastructure.
The Universal Immunization Programme (UIP) will now receive the Td vaccine. By April of this year, the CRI is slated to deliver 55 lakh doses through the UIP, with plans for further production increases in the following years to support the government's initiatives.
Minister Nadda also highlighted India's global pharmaceutical standing, referencing its rapid development of COVID-19 vaccines. He noted that CRI is the first government facility to achieve Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards, showcasing modernization in public sector vaccine production.
