No Unusual Influenza Surge in India, Health Ministry Confirms

The Indian government has announced that national surveillance systems show no unusual surge in influenza cases. Union Health Minister JP Nadda was briefed on the country's preparedness for respiratory illnesses, receiving assurance that all systems are functioning effectively. The current influenza activity is reported as low, both domestically and globally.
Officials from the National Centre for Disease Control and Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme confirmed that circulating strains remain the usual seasonal variants: H3N2 and Influenza B (Victoria), with a minor presence of H1N1. Near real-time surveillance mechanisms, including networks monitoring Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI), are actively in place.
In response, the Health Minister directed a comprehensive review of influenza preparedness with state nodal officers and government hospitals within the next fortnight. An advisory will be issued to all States and Union Territories, and mock drills will be conducted to ensure readiness.
