Ebony Clark, a 24-year-old from Hartcliffe, Bristol, is preparing to undertake a significant charity walk. She lives with hypermobility, a condition characterized by easily dislocating joints and extremely fragile bones, which causes her constant pain. Clark has undergone numerous hip operations throughout her life, a process that has necessitated her relearning to walk eight separate times, with the most recent instance occurring in February. Her efforts are in support of The Grand Appeal, a fundraising initiative for the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, a place that holds deep personal significance for her.
Clark spent a substantial portion of her childhood, up to the age of 17, as a patient at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. Reflecting on her experiences, she expressed a desire to 'give back to the hospital that looked after me for so many years.' Her consultant, Dr. James Barnes, acknowledged her resilience, stating she had 'been through a lot' but consistently maintained a positive outlook. Currently working as an admin employee for Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, Clark is employed at the very hospital that provided her care during her formative years. She recalls her earliest hospital visit at age four, highlighting how the medical staff helped her childhood feel as normal as possible.
