On Wednesday, TG-SAFE officials took decisive action, suspending the operating licenses of five sweet-manufacturing units in Hyderabad. G Pulla Reddy Sweets in Sanathnagar was among the establishments shut down immediately due to severe hygiene violations. Officials cited "unhygienic conditions," the presence of rotten vegetables, rat feces, and expired food items as primary reasons for the suspension.
Further inspections across 16 units revealed widespread issues, leading to the seizure of 3,546.5 kg of food valued at ₹16.86 lakh. G Pulla Reddy Sweets alone accounted for 3,133 kg of seized articles worth ₹15.03 lakh. Seven other businesses, including Karachi Bakery International, were issued show-cause notices for violations ranging from pest infestation to improper storage.
Officials also discovered some units operating without valid FSSAI licenses, while others used newspapers to cover sweets, indicating a significant disregard for food safety regulations. Improvement notices were also issued to some establishments, underscoring the need for immediate corrective actions.
