Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG-SAFE) conducted extensive inspections across 15 food establishments in Hyderabad on Thursday, revealing significant food safety and hygiene breaches. Eight dedicated enforcement teams discovered alarming conditions, including cockroach and rodent infestations, rat droppings, spoiled vegetables, and fungal contamination in prepared foods.

Officials reported multiple establishments failing to meet basic hygiene standards. Issues ranged from improper food storage and unclean utensils to poor personal hygiene among food handlers. At Pakwan Grand, authorities found 1,170 kg of expired rice and 45 kg of improperly labelled noodles, alongside spoiled eggs and rusty refrigerators.

Further violations were noted at Godavari Ghumaghumalu, which had worm-infested produce and rodent problems. Sri Krishna Family Dhaba faced issues with food handlers allegedly consuming gutka, while Vaishnavi Darshini had fungal contamination. Lucky Restaurant was shut down for operating without an FSSAI license and facing severe cockroach issues.

In total, eight establishments had their FSSAI licences suspended following these inspections. Five other businesses received improvement notices, and one was issued a show-cause notice for non-compliance, signaling a strict enforcement drive to improve food safety standards.
