Wife's Cancer Battle Inspires Husband's 800km Walk
27 May
Summary
- Jason walks 800km to raise money for pancreatic cancer.
- Wife Lucy battled breast and pancreatic cancer.
- Lucy died aged 57, diagnosed at 36 and 54.

Jason Venkatasamy, 59, is undertaking an 800-kilometer walk across Spain's Camino de Santiago in August to honor his late wife, Lucy Driver. Lucy's health journey began with a breast cancer diagnosis in 2005 at age 36, followed by remission within a year after surgery and chemotherapy.
Fifteen years later, in March 2022, Lucy, then 54, began experiencing declining health. Initially thought to be pancreatitis, tests revealed stage 2 pancreatic cancer. Her treatment involved chemotherapy to shrink the tumor, a 12-hour surgery in May 2023 to remove it, and subsequent radiotherapy and chemotherapy for a liver recurrence.
Despite a period of remission in early 2024, Lucy's cancer returned by Christmas that year. Sadly, her body could no longer withstand further treatment, and she began palliative care in October 2025. Lucy passed away on January 3, 2026, at the age of 57.
To commemorate Lucy's life and raise awareness, Jason's walk will support Pancreatic Cancer Action. He hopes to highlight the severity of pancreatic cancer and the importance of early symptom recognition.
