Grieving Widower Seeks Justice for Wife's Untimely Passing Following Childbirth Complications
14 Nov
Summary
- Wife died from brain bleed days after giving birth
- Husband demands answers from hospital ahead of inquest
- Couple had been trying for a baby for 5 years

In November 2025, a heartbroken husband is demanding answers from hospital bosses after his wife, Ilona Kazik, died from a catastrophic brain bleed just days after giving birth to their son. Ilona and her husband Rafal, 43, were overjoyed when she fell pregnant after 5 years of trying. However, their happiness soon turned to tragedy as Ilona never got to hold her newborn baby, Antony.
Ilona, who worked in a hospital herself, was diagnosed with high blood pressure the day before her cesarean delivery. Despite medication, her condition worsened, and hours after the birth, she complained of headaches, blurred vision, and vomiting before becoming unresponsive. A CT scan revealed a major brain bleed, and Ilona was rushed to a hospital in Cambridge, where doctors said nothing could be done to save her. Her life support was switched off on February 25, 2023, 11 days after Antony's birth.
Rafal, a construction worker who gave up his job to care for Antony, is now seeking legal action and has instructed medical negligence lawyers to investigate the care his wife received. He is also awaiting an inquest into Ilona's death, which is set to open on Monday. Rafal describes his wife as a "beautiful soul" and says the family will never be the same without her.
