Summary
- North Karnataka Sleep Centre opened in Hubballi to raise sleep deprivation awareness.
- Over 90% screened at the new centre showed moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea.
- Seven to eight hours of deep sleep is crucial for health and toxin release.

North Karnataka's first dedicated sleep facility, the North Karnataka Sleep Centre, was inaugurated in Hubballi, coinciding with World Sleep Day observances. The centre was established with the primary goal of increasing public awareness regarding the critical importance of adequate sleep and the widespread issue of sleep deprivation.
Doctors at the centre highlighted sleep deprivation as a significant public health concern. They explained that deep sleep is essential for the body's detoxification processes and that chronic lack of sleep can precipitate serious health conditions, including mental health disorders, elevated cortisol levels, fatty liver disease, dementia, diabetes, and hypertension.
Further alarming statistics emerged, indicating that over 90% of individuals screened at the facility were diagnosed with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Experts identified common early symptoms of OSA such as snoring, daytime sleepiness, obesity, morning headaches, and high blood pressure, stressing that early intervention is key to preventing long-term health complications.
