Tatwadarsha Hospital in Hubballi has successfully performed more than 100 kidney transplant surgeries, marking a significant achievement for its transplant program launched in December 2017. The hospital has been conducting an average of 12 to 15 transplants annually, demonstrating consistent growth and expertise in the field.
The majority of these procedures, nearly three-fourths, utilized kidneys from living related donors. The remaining transplants involved kidneys from brain-dead donors, highlighting a balanced approach to organ sourcing. The program has also successfully completed specialized transplants, including ABO incompatible, pediatric, and swap transplants.
Remarkably, 86% of the recipients are now leading healthy and independent lives. The hospital actively collaborates with the State's Jeevasarthakathe program for deceased donations and conducts annual awareness drives to encourage more citizens to consider organ donation through the Jeeva Sarathi portal.
