Girls Turn 14: HPV Vaccine Drive Kicks Off
4 Mar
Summary
- Eligible girls aged 14 receive a single HPV vaccine dose.
- Vaccinations will occur at district and sub-divisional hospitals.
- Health staff trained; vaccine not for empty stomachs.

A vital HPV vaccination initiative has commenced, targeting girls who have reached their 14th birthday but are yet to turn 15. Each eligible girl will receive one 0.5 ml dose of the HPV vaccine, administered in the left arm. The vaccination program will be conducted at several locations, including the district hospital, sub-divisional hospitals, community health centres, and urban health centres.
Extensive preparations are in place to ensure a smooth vaccination process. This includes a mandatory 30-minute observation period post-vaccination and the provision of refreshments for the girls. Private school associations are collaborating to support the program's success. Uninterrupted electricity supply is being ensured to maintain the cold chain necessary for vaccine storage. Widespread awareness campaigns are also being launched to encourage maximum participation among the target age group.
Health authorities have confirmed that the required vaccine stock has arrived and that healthcare staff have undergone specialized training. A crucial instruction is that the vaccine should not be administered on an empty stomach, advising girls to consume a meal beforehand. Vaccinated girls will be issued certificates, and their index finger will be marked for record-keeping purposes.
