Brigham and Dana-Farber Resolve Physician Assistant Conflict
10 Mar
Summary
- Hospitals rescinded notice to stop using physician assistants.
- Organizations are developing a coordinated plan for PAs.
- The partnership between Dana-Farber and Brigham is ending in 2028.

Brigham and Women's Hospital and Dana-Farber have reached an agreement to maintain the employment of physician assistants (PAs) who are employed by Dana-Farber but contracted to work in inpatient oncology at Brigham. This resolution follows a period of tension after Dana-Farber alerted its staff that Brigham intended to cease using these PAs starting in April. A joint email to staff confirmed that the previously issued notice has been rescinded as both organizations engage in further discussions.
These talks are aimed at developing a mutually acceptable plan to ensure stability for the PA workforce and manage an orderly transition. The ongoing separation between Dana-Farber and Brigham, a partnership that has lasted for decades, is expected to conclude in 2028. Despite this disentanglement, the hospitals are prioritizing continuity of high-quality patient care throughout this multifaceted transition period, which is anticipated to last approximately two and a half more years.
