A severe kidney infection outbreak has impacted six women who underwent caesarean deliveries at a government hospital and medical college. Two women, Payal and Jyoti Nayak, have tragically passed away, with Payal dying on Tuesday and Jyoti on Thursday morning, relative to the current date of May 9, 2026. As of Friday, May 9, 2026, three other women—Dhanno, Sushila, and Ragani—remain in critical condition and received dialysis on Friday afternoon.
One patient, Chandrakala, has shown signs of recovery with satisfactory urine discharge. Dhanno's condition is noted as the most critical, with her newborn also requiring oxygen support. The newborns of the affected mothers are healthy and receiving care in the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit. The hospital administration stated that medical staff acted promptly to transfer critical patients to the nephrology ward.
Families of the victims have filed complaints against the doctors involved, alleging negligence. They claim that when their wives' conditions worsened, medical staff were slow to respond. A high-level team from the state government has been dispatched to Jaipur to assist local doctors and investigate the cause of the fatal infections. The district administration has not yet issued an official statement regarding the inquiry's progress.
