An electric vehicle rapid charger has been installed at the University Hospital of North Tees, a development described as "an important step" for the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS).
This new dual rapid charger aims to support NEAS's operations in Teesside and contributes to the broader NHS objective of reaching net zero carbon emissions. NEAS manages a fleet of over 600 vehicles across 63 ambulance stations and three operations centres.
Earlier in 2026, the Department for Health and Social Care allocated £10 million to 120 NHS sites nationwide to enhance electric vehicle infrastructure. As part of this national effort, NEAS was awarded £2.2 million specifically for the installation of rapid EV charge points at seven ambulance stations.
