15 Sep
Summary
- Hormone therapy significantly reduced severe mood symptoms in menopausal women.
- Sixty-two percent of women experienced severe mood issues before treatment.
- Only 25% of women reported mood swings after starting hormone therapy.
Hormone therapy has demonstrated a remarkable ability to alleviate mood swings experienced by menopausal women. A recent study published in Menopause reported that severe mood symptoms decreased from 62% to just under 25% among participants undergoing this treatment.
The research, which tracked 260 women between January 2023 and April 2025, found that the therapy was linked to improvements in psychological well-being and sleep quality. These benefits were noted across various patient profiles, including those with prior psychiatric histories and individuals using antidepressant medications.
Mood-related symptoms like irritability and anxiety affect a significant number of menopausal women, often stemming from hormonal changes. The study's results indicate that estrogen therapy, known to support brain function, can effectively counteract these disruptive effects, helping women feel more like themselves during this transitional phase.
