Substandard Drugs Found in Himachal Pradesh

A rigorous quality assessment by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has identified 205 drug samples across India as "not of standard quality" (NSQ). During November, 49 of these substandard medicines were found to have been manufactured by units within Himachal Pradesh. These included critical medications for common ailments such as fever, heart conditions, and diabetes, raising significant public health concerns.
The failed drug samples originated from various districts in Himachal Pradesh, with Solan accounting for 28, Sirmaur for 18, and Una for one. In response to these findings, notices have been officially issued to the manufacturing companies. They have been mandated to initiate a recall of the substandard stock currently available in the market. Further actions will be taken against these companies as per established regulations.
Authorities are urging the public to exercise caution and consult the CDSCO website for a list of the failed medicines. The Himachal Health Minister has stated that companies with repeated quality failures will face blacklisting. This situation has prompted criticism from opposition parties, highlighting potential lapses in manufacturing and quality control mechanisms within the state.
