NHS Trust: Ambulance Station 'Not Fit for Purpose'
16 Oct
Summary
- Ambulance base built over 70 years ago is in poor condition.
- Investment failure could negatively impact frontline operations.
- Concerns raised about the station's run-down vehicles and buildings.
A critical ambulance base in High Wycombe is urgently in need of investment, according to the South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) NHS Foundation Trust. The trust has stated that the facility is "not fit for purpose" and requires significant upgrades.
The West End Street hub, which houses ambulance crews, support staff, and emergency vehicles, was originally constructed more than 70 years ago in 1955. Andrew Field, the trust's head of estates and capital works, highlighted that the site is in a "poor state of condition."
Failure to invest in the necessary improvements is predicted to have a detrimental effect on frontline emergency service operations. Concerns regarding the station's run-down vehicles and buildings were previously raised in April 2025 by Wycombe MP Emma Reynolds, who had discussed the issues with SCAS.
