Urgent Recall: Hibiwash Contaminated, Risk to Vulnerable
25 Mar
Summary
- Approximately 50,000 units of Hibiwash antimicrobial wash are recalled.
- Microbial contamination, specifically Burkholderia cepacia, found at manufacturing facility.
- Patients with cystic fibrosis or awaiting lung transplants are at higher risk.

Mölnlycke Health Care is recalling approximately 50,000 units of its Hibiwash antimicrobial wash. This precautionary measure follows the detection of microbial contamination, specifically Burkholderia cepacia, at the manufacturing facility during a recent inspection. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency has initiated a Class 2 recall.
Although no patients have yet reported adverse effects, regulatory action was swift due to potential risks. Certain patient groups, such as individuals with cystic fibrosis or those awaiting lung transplants, are considered more vulnerable and may face a higher risk of infection if exposed to the contaminated product.
