Miracle Dog's Quick Actions Prevented Tragedy
9 Feb
Summary
- A dog alerted a father to his daughter's seizure, saving her life.
- Jessica Glynn was diagnosed with epilepsy and a chiari malformation.
- Her daughter, Matilda, now helps manage her mother's seizures.

Jessica Glynn's life was repeatedly saved by her dog, Bonnie, a crossbreed Yorkie/Jack Russell. In September 2017, Bonnie alerted Jessica's father to her first seizure, preventing a potential tragedy. Jessica, then 26, was diagnosed with a chiari malformation and later, epilepsy, after experiencing further seizures.
Bonnie's actions were crucial, as she consistently alerted Jessica's father when she was having seizures. Her excessive barking would wake him up, leading him to find Jessica in distress. This vigilance from her pet was instrumental in her survival.
Now 34, Jessica's eight-year-old daughter, Matilda, plays a vital role in managing her mother's condition. Matilda, who sleeps in the same room as her mother, understands epilepsy and knows how to assist during seizures, including timing them and administering medication.
Matilda's quick thinking was demonstrated when she sought help from a local shopkeeper during a severe seizure. She also educates her classmates about epilepsy. Epilepsy Ireland has released a song for International Epilepsy Day to raise awareness about seizure first aid.
Jessica has been seizure-free since April 2025, finding relief after a difficult period. She and Matilda share their experiences on Instagram to help others. Though Bonnie has passed away, Jessica cherishes her memory, recognizing the extraordinary second sense her beloved pet possessed.
