25 Aug
Summary
- Kolhapur hospital receives Rs 1 crore for crucial medication.
- Specialized Hemlibra drug will be provided free to patients.
- Funding ensures a year-long supply for over 500 patients.

Haemophilia patients at Kolhapur's CPR Civil Hospital can rest assured about medication availability for at least the next year. District guardian minister Prakash Abitkar has sanctioned an emergency fund of Rs 1 crore to procure specialized medication.
The sanctioned funds will be used to purchase Hemlibra, a crucial non-factor medication for treating haemophilia A. This drug, which typically costs around Rs 40,000 per vial, will now be accessible to patients at CPR Hospital completely free of charge.
This initiative was prompted by patient concerns and a subsequent appeal to minister Abitkar. Medical experts highlight the significance of uninterrupted treatment, especially for younger patients, to prevent long-term joint damage and reduce the financial burden associated with complications.
Approximately 550 haemophilia patients are registered at the CPR Hospital facility, drawing patients from neighboring districts and bordering regions of Karnataka. The new funding ensures these patients will receive necessary treatment without interruption.
