15% Heart Function Restored with Groundbreaking MitraClip Use
13 Dec
Summary
- Patient with 15% heart function underwent successful double MitraClip therapy.
- Heart function improved from 15% to 40% within ten days post-procedure.
- Novel TEER procedure restored blood circulation and stabilized the patient's heart.

A patient suffering from unstable blood pressure and declining kidney function for nearly two years, deemed unfit for traditional heart surgery, has made a significant recovery. Hadi Mustafa Hamad, with only 15% heart function, successfully underwent a dual MitraClip therapy, a Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (TEER) procedure. This groundbreaking treatment, usually reserved for patients with over 25% heart function, involved clipping a leaking mitral valve to restore proper blood flow.
The complex six-hour procedure, performed by a team of 14 specialists, required a second MitraClip intervention to ensure the patient's survival. Supported by an Intra Aortic Balloon Pump, the TEER therapy addressed the critical valve leakage, which could have led to multiple organ failure with other surgical options.
