Hadi Mustafa Hamad, with only 15% heart function, successfully underwent a dual MitraClip therapy, a Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (TEER) procedure. This groundbreaking treatment, usually reserved for patients with over 25% heart function, involved clipping a leaking mitral valve to restore proper blood flow.
The complex six-hour procedure, performed by a team of 14 specialists, required a second MitraClip intervention to ensure the patient's survival. Supported by an Intra Aortic Balloon Pump, the TEER therapy addressed the critical valve leakage, which could have led to multiple organ failure with other surgical options.
Remarkably, within ten days following the interventions, the patient's heart function dramatically improved to approximately 40%. Cardiac swelling subsided, kidney function normalized, and the patient regained the ability to walk and breathe without assistance, showcasing the efficacy of this advanced cardiac intervention.
