Heart Drug Warning After Man's Tragic Death
23 Feb
Summary
- Coroner issues warning over apixaban blood-thinning medication.
- No leaflet advice for head injuries while taking apixaban.
- Man died from brain bleed after fall while on medication.

An urgent warning has been issued concerning the blood-thinning medication apixaban, following the tragic death of Clive Hyman, 64. Mr. Hyman, a London-based corporate finance expert, died on August 10, 2025, from a brain bleed after a fall in Bucharest, Romania.
Despite experiencing a minor fall on August 1, 2025, he initially felt fine and continued taking his prescribed apixaban. Nine days later, he suffered a severe headache and vomiting, leading to hospitalization and the discovery of a subdural haemorrhage.
An inquest at Poplar Coroner's Court revealed a critical flaw: patient information leaflets for apixaban do not advise on actions to take following a head injury. Assistant Coroner Sarah Bourke expressed concern that this lack of information poses a risk of future deaths.
Mr. Hyman's widow, Rachel, believes his life could have been saved had they known the risks. She is now advocating for increased awareness about the potential dangers of apixaban, especially after head trauma, to prevent similar tragedies.
