Massive Health Drive for Lakhs of Workers Announced
19 Apr
Summary
- Private hospitals will use CSR funds for worker medical camps.
- Camps to screen for eye ailments and major cancers.
- Mobile medical vans and mini OPDs to be deployed in labour areas.

District Magistrate Medha Roopam has mandated that private hospitals leverage their corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds to organize regular medical camps within industrial zones. This directive follows a review of healthcare access for the substantial labor population employed in the district's manufacturing units, many of whom face limited formal healthcare options.
The planned medical camps will feature essential services such as eye check-ups, distribution of spectacles, and treatment for conditions like cataracts. Furthermore, screenings for serious illnesses including breast and cervical cancers will be conducted, with services extended to the workers' families. To enhance reach, authorities intend to deploy mobile medical vans and establish mini outpatient departments in areas with high concentrations of laborers.
In addition to private sector involvement, the district administration is ensuring adequate resources at government healthcare facilities. Instructions have been issued to guarantee sufficient availability of doctors, medicines, and equipment at district hospitals, community health centers, primary health centers, and the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS). The implementation of these measures is contingent upon the submission of micro-plans by hospitals and the finalization of coordination mechanisms.
Similar health initiatives are being extended to construction workers through periodic check-ups and mobile units. The administration is also actively working to expand the network of hospitals affiliated with the Ayushman Bharat scheme, thereby improving access to affordable treatment for workers and their families.
