An investigation confirmed that a New Year's Eve party, complete with alcohol, took place inside the maternity ward of Sembanur Government Primary Health Centre. This led to the suspension of four doctors and one pharmacist who were found to have participated in the event. The incident was brought to light by a visitor who recorded a video showing liquor bottles and food in the doctors' rest area.
The viral video prompted District Health Officer Meenakshi to launch an inquiry. The investigation validated the claims, resulting in the immediate suspension of the involved medical staff. Those suspended include Dr. Sashikanth, who was on night duty, and doctors Koushik, Naveen Kumar, and Manirathnam, along with pharmacist Kamalakannan.
In addition to the suspensions, show-cause notices have been issued to a nurse and a medical assistant who were on duty during the alleged party. They have been asked to provide an explanation for their conduct. This incident has raised serious concerns about professional conduct within the healthcare facility.
