As of 2025-08-07T06:34:05+00:00, the Punjab Health Minister, Dr. Balbir Singh, has revealed that the state has been facing a major issue with adulteration in two of the most nutrient-dense food items - paneer (cheese) and desi ghee (clarified butter).
In a recent statement, the minister shared the results of samples collected, stating that out of 531 paneer samples, a staggering 196 were found to be substandard, and 59 were deemed unsafe for consumption. "There is maximum adulteration in paneer (cheese) and 'desi ghee' (clarified butter)," the minister emphasized.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, Dr. Singh has advised consumers to be cautious and purchase these consumable products from known and trusted sources. Alternatively, he has recommended that people consider making paneer and desi ghee at home to ensure quality and purity.
The minister's warning comes as a wake-up call for the authorities to strengthen quality control measures and crack down on the adulteration racket. Consumers, on the other hand, must remain vigilant and prioritize their health by sourcing these essential food items from reliable sources or opting for homemade alternatives.
